All about my school

Good day everyone. Today, I am going to tell you all about my school.  These information I have researched from the website and the pictures are also from that particular website.

Rev. Hoover

Rev. Mathew James Hoover arrived in Sibu on March 26, 1903.  He is an American.  He established The Anglo Chinese School  at Sg. Merah on May 27, 1903. The main language of education at that time was Chinese.

Two years later, the school moved to the shophouses in the town of Sibu by the Rajang River on 18 April 1905.  Rev. Mathew James Hoover's wife taught the men using the British curriculum, while the girls were taught separately in the shop floor.

1925-oriented English classes started .1942 - 1945-school closed during the colonial .18.01.1949, Hoover Memorial Building was opened to commemorate the contribution of the service Rev. James Hoover.

In 1962, the primary and secondary school administration were seperated . On 11.3.1978, 4-storey school building was officially opened by YB Datuk Wong Soon Kai, Minister of Agriculture and Development Community.  In addition, they also built basketball, volleyball and badminton courts.

In 1950, the Methodist Secondary School moved to a new site at Jalan Tun Abang Haji Openg.  From 1951 till 1957, the Methodist Secondary School, Methodist English School and Methodist Primary School consolidated under one administration.   In 1959, another Methodist Primary School building was inaugurated.

In 1989, another 4 storey concrete building was erected. It also comes with a library.

Today, the development of the both the Secondary & Primary schools are quite extensive.  Currently, the Primary School have undergone a bit of construction with the completion of the new Teachers' Office Block that is joint with the Methodist Center/Hoover House.  The new school canteen is also under construction.

We look forward to seeing the new face of the SJK Methodist!
